Race 3~May 12
This week at Twin State
Speedway the green flag prevailed. The drivers put on an
amazing show in all divisions with very few cautions. Even
the spectators got involved with some great side by side
street car action.
Before the features started,
Spectator Drags were called to the track. These fans lined
up side-by-side for two lap heats, and biy did they give it
all they had. In the first race a full-sized truck went
around on the backstretch in a cloud of smoke. A Viper lead
in its heat but lost in the final corner, but treated the
fans to a Smokey burnout. The race for third had a car in
the grass. Ultimately an All Wheel Drive Subaru would come
out with the win driven by . The next Spectator Drags are on
Saturday June 30th, it's your chance to prove what you have!
The first feature was the R.E.
Hinkley Super Streets. This division of cars is very
competitive this year. Even with the cars so close and
everybody driving hard, the drivers have shown a lot of
respect and have kept the racing clean. Last weeks winner
Ben Poland would start at the rear of the field and worked
hard to get back to fifth place, unable to get around
veteran John Meaney. Jeremy Zullo, with one win under his
belt this year already would pilot his car to the front
position. Ed LaQuire and Chris Wilk would battle vary hard
for second spot, door to door for several laps. LaQuire
would take the second and Wilk third. The next three were
virtually nose to tail across the line, Meaney, Poland and
Jimmy Zullo.
Next up was the Pepsi
Modifieds. These open-wheeled racers have settled down from
past weeks and had a good race. This division continues to
be ultra competitive, with most teams having a chance to win
every week. The front three were bumper to bumper with two
laps to go. Aaron Fellows developed a smoking problem and
have to retire to the pits. Don Miller would hold off the
charging Mike Willis for the win. Norman Forrest was right
there to take the third position. Robert Hagar would take
fourth and rookie David Greenslit would come home fifth.
The Suburban Propane Wild
Cats was next. This class of drivers continues to be
diverse, yet manages to put on a "Wild" show. Early on
Jeremiah Losee would take the lead, but he would not run
away with it. Teammate Nelson Rickert would battle with him,
resulting in contact and a flat tire. Robert Leitch would
step up next and dog Losee to the end, with Losee coming to
the line first. Taylor Gilbert would put in another strong
run and come across the line third. A last lap incident
would let Bryan Brunt get around Chris Conroy for fourth and
fifth. A post race inspection would re-arrange the finsh to
make it Leitch, Gilbert, Brunt, Conroy, and 12 year old
Tyler Janovsky fifth.
The Jim's Cap Town Late
Models would come out next. This group would not disappoint.
Lap after lap there were lead changes and passes being made.
Aaron Fellows and Chris Curtis battled for several laps,
trading the lead almost every corner. Fellows would have
ignition problems on the last lap and give Curtis the win.
Kyle Welch never stopped digging and brought home second.
Returning veteran Brad Bennet would push up to third. Dennis
Stange and Mark Merrill would round out the top five.
Last but not least was the
Limited Sportsman. The car count in this field is starting
to grow. No matter how many cars, Brian Tarbell is still
managing to get his car to the lead. He would not run away
with it though. Dustin Decoteau was right on his bumper for
most of the race. Tara Tarbell would come up to challenge
Decoteau and the two would be next to each other for the
last few laps. Decoteau would hold on for second with T.
Tarbell third. All drivers were all smiles in Victory Lane!
Mike Metcalf is getting faster and came home fourth, with
Evan Burke finishing fifth.
